Can diabetics drink Alcohol?

In this video, Dr. Suman Kirti, Endocrinologist, Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi, talks about whether diabetics can drink alcohol or not. She will tell us that diabetics can drink alcohol in moderate amounts, not more than 10 units in a week. They can consume 60 ml for 5 days in a week which will not impact the blood glucose levels if the food intake is adequate. Dr. Suman also talks about side effects of alcohol consumption as it worsens neuropathy. If proper food intake is delayed, alcohol can cause hypoglycemia and suppresses neoglucogenesis which can be dangerous as the CNS inhibitory effect of alcohol can make it more serious. Also alcohol has a U or J shaped relation with blood pressure which goes on increasing.
