Allergic rhinitis is a persistent and challenging condition influenced by various factors. Evidence indicates a potential link between cesarean section (C-section) delivery and the risk of pediatric allergic rhinitis.
A new study investigated the relationship between C-section delivery and pediatric allergic rhinitis. The study involved a comprehensive search of databases, including studies from January 2000 to November 2022. A meta-analysis was performed to assess the association between C-section delivery and pediatric allergic rhinitis risk, with adjustments for potential confounding factors. Subgroup analyses were carried out considering geographical regions and family history of allergies.
The results showed a significant connection between C-section delivery and an increased pediatric allergic rhinitis risk. Region-specific analyses revealed the highest soaring risk in South America. Of note, a family history of allergies did not appear to influence the risk of pediatric allergic rhinitis.
Moreover, the findings suggested that choosing C-section as a delivery method may elevate the risk of pediatric allergic rhinitis, particularly in high-risk regions. Nonetheless, individual circumstances and preferences of pregnant women should be considered when making delivery mode decisions. Further research with larger sample sizes, prospective designs, and more comprehensiveadjustments for confounding factors is warranted to validate these findings and explore the relationship with family history of allergies.
