Dyslipidemia Management in PAD

  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a highly prevalent atherosclerotic syndrome and is associated with significant disability, morbidity and mortality.
  • PAD still largely remains underdiagnosed, understudied and undertreated.
  • Despite the significant limb and CV outcomes in PAD, there is poor risk factor modification relative to other atherosclerotic diseases like CAD or stroke.
  • Initiate HIS in patients with PAD once diagnosed.
  • Classify the PAD patient in one of the ASCVD risk categories based on related ASCVD risk factors and other comorbidities. Define the goal of LDL-C based on the ASCVD risk category.
  • Send extended lipid profile including LP(a) assessment.
  • If there is a greater reduction of LDL-C required according to the lipid profile report, other nonstatin drugs may be used in addition to HIS.
