The study conducted by Salvi P, et al aimed to assess the benefits of adding infrared radiation to standard care in comparison to only routine care on the healing of episiotomy wounds in postnatal mothers.
A total of 120 postnatal women who met the study criteria were randomly assigned to two groups: Group A received only standard care, while Group B received standard care along with infrared radiation. Comprehensive clinical histories, including medical, surgical, and obstetric details, were collected, and baseline laboratory tests were performed.
The findings of the study showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups based on the REEDA scale, which measures redness, edema, ecchymosis, discharge, and approximation of skin edges.
Thus, the study concluded that addition of infrared therapy significantly improves wound healing and reduces pain in postnatal mothers.
