Efficacy and safety of fixed dose combination of serratiopeptidase and diclofenac sodium in managing post-operative pain and inflammation in day care obstetric and gynecological surgeries

Effective management of acute post-operative pain and swelling is vital in obstetric and gynecological (OBG) surgeries to promote patient recovery and independence. The preferred treatment strategy is to minimize or completely eliminate post-operative pain and swelling without causing excessive sedation. The most commonly used anti-inflammatory to control pain and swelling are serratiopeptidase and diclofenac sodium. This study assessed the effectiveness and tolerability of a fixed-dose combination (FDC) of serratiopeptidase (10 mg) and diclofenac sodium (50 mg) in patients undergoing day care OBG surgery.

Conducted as a single-center, retrospective observational analysis, the study included data from 61 adult women who received the FDC of serratiopeptidase (10 mg) with diclofenac sodium (50 mg) gastro-resistant tablets thrice daily for 24 hours post-surgery. The analysis focused on Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores for pain at rest and on movement, as well as post-operative swelling, alongside monitoring for adverse events.

The results showed that 65.57% of patients underwent minimally invasive vaginal yysterectomy (MIVH) while 6.56% had MIVH with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and 27.8% had other OBG surgeries. VAS scores for both pain (at rest and at movement) and swelling significantly decreased from baseline at all time points. Moreover, 95% of physicians and 93.3% of patients rated the efficacy and safety of the FDC as good to very good. The combination was well tolerated, without an incidence of serious adverse reactions.

In conclusion, the study supported the therapeutic potential and tolerability of the FDC of serratiopeptidase and diclofenac sodium in the management of early post-operative pain and swelling in day care OBG surgery patients.
