Evaluation of Cosmetics for Sensitive Skin in Children Under 7 Years

The study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of skin cosmetics for restoring skin conditions in children up to 7 years old, emphasizing on reducing dryness, irritation, and itching.

This observative open clinical noncomparative study included 50 children—30 with sensitive skin and 20 with cradle cap. Participants attended two office visits, during which a doctor calculated the severity of dryness and itching on a scale from 0 to 10. The study lasted approximately 28 days.

The results demonstrated:

  • No adverse effects on the skin were observed with the usage of cosmetics, and no participants needed external anti-inflammatory treatments.
  • There were no issues such as no lacrimation, conjunctiva irritation during washing.
  • By days 3 to 5, dryness in children with sensitive skin was reduced by about 50%, with only one child experiencing light itching.
  • By the end of the study, only two patients showed minimal skin dryness.
  • In the cradle cap group, complaints of itching disappeared, and scalp dryness significantly improved by days 3 to 5.
  • Overall, the median values for dryness, itching, and squamous elements were considerably lower by the conclusion of the study.

To summarize, owing to the unique skin characteristics of children under 7, it is crucial to identify suitable cosmetic ingredients and formulations for skin care. Addressing hygiene and minimizing environmental sensitivity can help reduce the risk of irritation and skin issues. The cosmetic components should exert a positive impact on the skin by enhancing hydration and maintaining optimal barrier function.
