Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a form of hemoglobin which is measured primarily to identify the three-month average plasma glucose concentration. In this video, Dr. Suman Kirti, Endocrinologist, Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi, tells us that HbA1c reflects the last three months glycosylated hemoglobin as the red blood cells have a cycle of three months. So Dr. Suman tells us that ideally every three month HbA1c test should be repeated. Many a times, patients cannot afford test every three months, then it should be done by 4 – 6 month time.
