Incidence of Cardiorespiratory Instability Following Closure of Percutaneous Patent Ductus Arteriosus

A recent study that evaluated postprocedural clinical characteristics of preterm infants undergoing transcatheter patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure found

  • The inclusion of 197 patients with median age and weight at catheterization of 34 days and 1090 grams, respectively.
  • 23.3% incidence of post-transcatheter cardiorespiratory syndrome.

In conclusion, Post-transcatheter cardiorespiratory syndrome is indicated mainly by systemic hypertension and oxygenation failure, with a very low chance of hypotension and inotropes requirement.
