Menstrual and vaginal health concerns persist as a pressing issue for women in the North East region. A recent survey conducted by Gynoveda, encompassing over 500 participants across the eight states of North East India, has revealed that an astonishing 98 percent of women in this area have either experienced or are currently grappling with these health challenges.
This alarming statistic underscores the urgent requirement for comprehensive and easily accessible healthcare solutions in the region to address these issues.
These health concerns can be broadly categorized into menstrual and vaginal health issues. Of the respondents, 55 percent reported experiencing menstrual health issues, with Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD) being the most prevalent problem affecting 36 percent of women. PCOD can lead to irregular periods, fertility issues, and other complications. Another common menstrual health issue reported was Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), affecting 12 percent of women. PMS refers to a combination of physical and emotional symptoms occurring prior to menstruation.
In terms of vaginal health, Pelvic Inflammatory Disorder (PID) affects 24 percent of women, which is an infection of the reproductive organs that can cause pelvic pain, infertility, and other complications. Additionally, 18 percent of women in the region reported experiencing Candidiasis, a fungal infection commonly known as a yeast infection.
The survey involved the participation of 85 percent of women above the age of 35 and 15 percent below the age of 35.
"This survey on menstrual and vaginal health is the most comprehensive one carried out by any Indian brand.
