Immunization coverage in India varies significantly across different settings, geographic areas, and populations. Leveraging technology can play a crucial role in reducing these disparities and enhancing immunization access. Various technologies have been identified for this purpose, including reminder systems, capacity building, community engagement, and wearable technologies. Automated incentivized mobile phone reminders, immunization due lists, computerized data tracking, community mobilization, and campaigns have all been shown to improve vaccine coverage, though their effectiveness can vary across different states.
Newer technologies, such as the Jyotigram Yojana, Digital Near-field Communication Pendants, the “Reaching Every District” Programme, and the “My Village My Home” tool, have also shown promise. These innovations aim to streamline immunization processes and ensure that more people receive timely vaccinations.
Future studies are essential to confirm the effectiveness and acceptability of individual or combined technologies for overall program improvement across different contexts, populations, and geographic locations. By exploring and expanding the use of successful technologies, India can move closer to achieving comprehensive immunization coverage for all its populations.
