The body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy and gestational weight gain (GWG) may determine the pregnancy outcome. Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and macrosomia are associated with BMI.
A recent study collected data from 720
pregnant mothers and found significant chances of Gestational hypertension in
overweight women and those who gained weight above the recommended range. This
underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions and increased vigilance
for high-risk populations. Pre-pregnancy dietary counseling, coupled with
tailored lifestyle modifications, emerges as crucial in mitigating risks
associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and gestational
hypertension. Hence, we should adopt proactive
prenatal care strategies that handle the multifaceted determinants of
gestational health.
