In this video, Dr. Mahesh Verma, Padma Shri Awardee, President of Indian Academy of Restorative Dentistry (IARD) and Vice President of Dental Council of India, will discuss about dental caries. Dental caries are also known as tooth decay which is the commonest disease affecting all age groups. He will also explain how dental caries are formed. There are millions of bacteria in the mouth which interacts with the food producing weak acids which attack surface of the teeth causing decay. He further will discuss how a simple caries can become a big cavitation lodging food in them. The patient has symptoms like severe pain, sensitivity, swelling and then infection which can reach the soft tissues also. The sugary, sticky food can get lodged in the teeth if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. He will also further explain the other causes of dental caries.
