What is the link between smoking & diabetes?

In this video, Dr. Suman Kirti, Endocrinologist, Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi talks about the link between smoking & Diabetes. Smoking is a risk factor for diabetes related complications. Diabetes is a strong factor for organ damage by atherosclerosis and inflammation. Smoking also increases cardiovascular diseases, peripheral diseases, hypertension, stroke, renal damage and retinopathy. Smoking can be very detrimental for a diabetic patient’s health as it can add comorbidities. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that diabetics should not smoke. Smoking and diabetes both have increased incidence of cancer.
