Diabetes is a strong factor for organ damage by atherosclerosis and inflammation. Smoking also increases cardiovascular diseases, peripheral diseases, hypertension, stroke, renal damage and retinopathy. Smoking can be very detrimental for a diabetic patient’s health as it can add comorbidities. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that diabetics should not smoke. Smoking and diabetes both have increased incidence of cancer.
