He will discuss that the if pain in the knee is affecting the quality of life and making the patient immobile, then he needs to undergo knee replacement surgery. Also, after much extensive use of NSAIDs and painkillers, physiotherapy etc. and still the pain is not better, then it’s time for knee replacement. Generally stage 3 and 4 of osteoarthritis are suggested for this surgery. Dr. Mahajan will also state that if a person with advanced stage of osteoarthritis in knee as shown in X-ray but doesn’t have much pain and immobility then surgery is not recommended.

Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Fortis Hospital from 2009 to 2014.
