Update on Osteoporosis- Action, Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment
Osteoporosis is characterized by porous (spongy) bone as the bone's ability to renew itself declines. Bone strength depends on various factors, some of which are controllable. Gender, age, and family history raise osteoporosis risk. Regular exercise, a vitamin D- and calcium-rich diet, and quitting smoking and heavy drinking are all encouraged.
